
Sustainable Urban and Rural Water Supply Sanitation and Hygiene Program for Results (SURWASH)
The Program for Results (PforR) component consists of a $640 million funding package aimed at strengthening policies, institutions, and service delivery. Additionally, a $60 million Technical Assistance (TA) component supports institutional development and capacity building at federal and state levels.
The Program operates under the Federal Ministry of Water Resources (FMWR) with a Federal Project Implementation Unit (FPIU) coordinating national-level activities, including procurement and monitoring. State-level implementation units manage policies and operations at the state level.
1. Results Area 1: Strengthened Sector Policies and Institutions for Improved Services (US$85 million):This area supports policy reforms and capacity enhancement for effective service delivery. Key Disbursement Linked Indicators (DLIs) include:
- Establishing a National WASH Fund.
- Designing and implementing state-level policies and performance assessments
2. Results Area 2: Improved Access to Water Supply, Sanitation, and Hygiene Services (US$555 million): This area focuses on increasing access to water and sanitation through investments in infrastructure and community-level initiatives. Activities include:
- Supporting the Clean Nigeria Campaign.
- Enhancing facilities in schools and healthcare centers.
- Improving public sanitation.
DLI 3: People provided with basic drinking water service.
DLI 4: People with access to sustainably functioning water services.
DLI 5: Households with improved sanitation facilities.
DLI 6: Communities achieving and maintaining ODF+ sanitation status.
DLI 7: Schools and healthcare facilities with functional water, sanitation, and handwashing facilities.
